Jamaica Plain MA Real Estate and General Information

Are you looking for a house in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts? I have been a Realtor here for many years.

Jamaica Plain, also known to the locals as “JP”, is the classic streetcar suburb. The Boston neighborhood has become the city's most diverse and dynamic neighborhoods. As of 2006, Boston has a population of 590,763.

Education

Jamaica Plain falls into Boston Public Schools, the oldest school system in the country and caters to 145 schools and 57,000 students. Boston is also known as the Athens of America for its excellence in teaching and research. The Jamaica Plain neighborhood has several public grade schools in its domain and is nearby several notable colleges including Harvard University, Boston University and Cambridge University. Two community colleges also serve the city of Boston.

The Eden of America

In the 19th century, Jamaica Plain was often called the Eden of America as it is one of Boston's greenest neighborhoods and is bordered by a number of “jewels” of the Emerald Necklace park system. Residents of Jamaica Plain take leisure in walking, biking and running along the Jamaica Pond on the Riverway as a part of the Emerald Necklace. The Jamaica Pond has 60 acres on the surface and is the deepest body of fresh water in Boston. Also along the Emerald Necklace is 1 of the 2 major bicycle paths of Jamaica Plain.

Recreation

In total, Boston offers over 2,200 acres of park land throughout the city for residents to enjoy. Particularly, the residents love the 100 acres of trails, ball fields and picnic areas provided by Millennium Park. In addition, the city of Boston holds some sort of city-wide festivity every month. These events are held in recognition of anything from a garden contest in July to Boston Pride day in June. Boston is also home to many museums, including but not limited to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which is Boston's mini-version of the Met and houses the 2nd-largest collection of artwork in the Western Hemisphere and the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, which has over 20,000 objects dating back to the 1400s.
